Gorthleck is a small hamlet on the North shore of Loch Mhor in Inverness-shire (South side of Loch Ness)

It was rumoured that Bonny Prince Charlie stayed in Gorthleck House after the battle of Culloden and had to flee after seeing the Redcoats from an upstairs window!

Gorthleck is ideally situated for a holiday packed with activities and interest. Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is only 20 miles away, reached by a variety of very scenic routes.

The roads on this side of Loch Ness are arguably superior to the main road on the other side, as more peaceful and far less touristy. In any case it would be then easy to do the complete loop and return to Inverness via Fort Augustus along the main road, to visit Urquhart Castle and all the " monster attractions" in Drumnadrochit.

Loch Ness is just down the road and you would be forgiven for wanting to do the...touristy thing and go there to try and meet Nessie...

Loch Mhor is just a mile from us and is spectacularly pretty with wonderful colours especially in Autumn.

Bird watchers can enjoy visiting the important Loch Ruthven Nature Reserve, near here
